Our creative clock is sometimes messy, fragmented, and unpredictable.
I’ve almost finished reading The Art of Creative Thinking by Rod Judkins – and this one of the most beautiful books I have read in a very long time. This book is provocative yet settling, immersive yet rebellious. At the heart of all that we do in our lives, we are creative thinkers. Even the most mundane things can give us a spark, and our vivid explorations can give us a reconciled meaning. After reflecting on my sometimes overwhelmed self, with the uncertainty in life, books are my guiding compass.
However sometimes, it’s just best to do nothing, so that you can balance and regulate your emotions – some lurking to be felt and some just wanting to be ‘mattered’. (The book has an entire chapter espousing this ‘action’)
Now, nothing also has a spectrum of thoughts; that’s when your mind knows when it wants to absorb or nurtured by something and when it wants to undergo some sort of emotional catharsis.
This is where our creative clock ticks and subtly lets us know when its time to read or write.
You have to just be careful of your emotional and mental diet – that is, what videos you watch, which podcasts you tune into, what kind of articles incite you or change something about your thought process – or simple get a fresh perspective when things feel stale.
So I invite you be with yourself, fully. Let you mind and heart wander. Sustain with what your creative clock says and thrive with your unique imprint.
Embrace the messiness. Because that’s when you feel your mind and think with your heart – let the thoughts meld and slowly, just slowly, let your soul express what it so deservedly and courageously wants to say.
Are you too emotionally taxed or something wearing your down? Just write.
And if you feel something needs to fill you up in a void that you don’t know till yet, just read.
Just remember – I’m here, listening, deeply.
